Phase transitions and thermal expansion in pyroelectric energy conversion

چکیده
This paper elucidates dynamic effects of phase transitions and thermal expansion on pyroelectric energy conversion. The Olsen cycle was performed on [001]-oriented 0:72PbMg1=3Nb2=3O30:28PbTiO3 (PMN-28PT) single crystals at different frequencies with electric field cycled between 0.2 and 0.75 MV/m and temperature between 22 and 140 C. The measured energy density more than doubled as frequency increased from 0.0173 to 0.0211 Hz. This was attributed to secondary pyroelectric effect caused by thermal expansion. At 0.0211 Hz, the samples transitioned from pseudocubic to highly polarized tetragonal phase during cooling. At lower frequency, it underwent additional phase transition from tetragonal to less polarized monoclinic phase. VC 2013 American Institute of Physics. [http://dx.doi.org/10.1063/1.4776668]

متن کاملThe pyroelectric energy harvesting capabilities of PMN--PT near the morphotropic phase boundary
This paper reports on direct thermal to electrical energy conversion by performing the Olsen cycle on pyroelectric materials. The energy harvesting capability of commercially available [001] oriented 68PbMg1/3Nb2/3O3–32PbTiO3 (PMN–32PT) single crystal capacitors was measured experimentally. An energy density of 100 mJ cm−3/cycle, corresponding to 4.92 mW cm−3, was obtained by successively dippi...
متن کاملProcessing of Signal of Pyroelectric Sensor in Laser Energy Meter
In this paper the principles of measuring the energy of pulse light sources (especially pulse lasers), using pyroelectric sensors, are presented. The theoretical principles of operation pyroelectric sensors are described, as well a conversion system of pyroelectric sensor signal, enabling to reduce the influence of acoustic, thermal, and electromagnetic interference, influencing the sensor.

The thermal transport properties-thermal diffusivity, thermal conductivity and specific heat capacity-of potassium selenate crystal have been measured through the successive phase transitions, following the photo-pyroelectric thermal wave technique. The variation of thermal conductivity with temperature through the incommensurate (IC) phase of this crystal is measured. The enhancement in therma...
متن کاملHarvesting Nanoscale Thermal Radiation Using Pyroelectric Materials
Pyroelectric energy conversion offers a way to convert waste heat directly into electricity. It makes use of the pyroelectric effect to create a flow of charge to or from the surface of a material as a result of heating or cooling. However, an existing pyroelectric energy converter can only operate at low frequencies due to a relatively small convective heat transfer rate between the pyroelectr...
